Vocabulary Extravaganza (Part 3)

We're halfway through our expedition on vocabulary! How many new words have you learned so far? I bet it's a bunch!

Let's explore the words highlighted during January of 2000. In fact, I'm going to pick one to do with all of you since this is a word you often hear, but when you see it, you wouldn't think it's the same word!

segue \SEG-way\ , intransitive verb:
1. To proceed without interruption; to make a smooth transition.
Sample sentence: The newscaster made a great segue from the story about restaurants to a story about nutrition.

Ratiocination - The process of reasoning.

Frisson - A brief moment of intense excitement.

Nadir - The lowest point.

I saw my dad go through some testing times, when he lost his sight that was nadir in life.

fulsome: offensive from excess of praise.

constitutional: a walk taken for one's health.

canard: an unfounded or false report.

fop: a man who is vain about his dress and appearance.

My doctor recommends me to take a constitutional after each meal to reduce my stomach acid reflux.

Here are 4 words along with their meaning:

Nadir - the lowest point

Vainglory - excessive pride or vain display

Canard - an unfounded or false report

Acrid - sharp and harsh; bitter

Sentence:
Acrid - He used some acrid words to express his feelings towards his current situation.

He seems like a very nice man, I do not know why everybody considers him the bete noire of the family.

acrid - sharp and harsh; bitter

inveterate - deep-rooted; of long standing.

Sentence:
My brother is an inveterate member of the Racing Car Association.

My father spoke acrid words about my bad behavior.

supercililious: diddainfully arrogant
