Business Vocabulary (Part 1)

With so much emphasis today on the economy and the job market, let's spend some time looking over some important business vocabulary terms that relate to employment.

Visit this link (http://www.englishclub.com/business-english/vocabulary_employment.htm). Find 2-3 terms that you're not totally familiar with and come back to this blog so you can post the words & definitions of each. Then try to use one of those words correctly in a sentence.

Perk:abbr. perquisite; somthing additional to regular salary (eg:free meals; a car)

cirriculum vitae: short account of one's education, career etc; cv; resume

Tom just spends 5 minutes to finish his cirriculum vitae while he apply a salesperson job on line.

Prospects - opportunity for success, promotion etc.

My husband was on the prospects list.

Prospect: Opportunity for success.
Personnel: The people work for a firm.
Many poeple on a daily basese are applied a jod with the hope of prospest of a job.In the personnel office.tiffanyf

I am definitively not familiar with the word perk.

Perk: Something additional to regular salary (free meals; a car)

It is a perk to work at Cheesecake Factory because I get to eat for free.

Curriculum vitae - short account of one's education, career etc. CV, resume

Make redundant - to dismiss because of not being needed.

The company has eliminated some positions at the company and she was made redundant.

Resign: to leave employment because of age.

Sentence: after being with the company for many years,Mr Brown decided to resign.

When I was interviewed for a job, I gave the employer a curriculum vitae.

personnel officer n. manager responsible for recruitment, training and welfare of personnel


Our new personnel officer is responsible for the supervision of the department schedules, interviews and payroll transactions.
