Vocabulary - Technology Terms (Part 2)

Here's the next set of technology terms (from http://www.tekmom.com/buzzwords/) to review. Just like before, please look for 2 or 3 words that you aren't familiar with, click on each word, and look at the definition. Then come back & post what you learned!

I was interested in what the internet really meant. I always knew it was available and actually use it quite frequently but I never realized what exactly it was. Now I know the interesting fact that the internet it just many computers connecting together.

Pixel: A pixel is a tiny dot of light on the computer monitor.

Kilobyte: A kilobyte is a unit of measure equal to 1,024 bytes, which is about a thousand bytes.

Binary - means two or base two the binary system is a way of counting using just the two numbers 0 and 1.

Peripheral - A hardware device that is connect to a computer usually by a cable.

Gigabyte - is a unit of measure equal to 1,073, 741, 824 bytes, which is about one billion bytes.

The three words I choose is download, e-mail and floppy disk and I learn alot about these words.tiffanyf

Modem: A device that links a computer to other computers through a telephone line.

Initialize: Format a disk so it will hold information.
