Tell me a story - August's edition

Normally, each month begins with a "tell me a story" blog post. This month, it's a little late. But that's ok because it's here now!

Get those creative juices flowing. I'd like you to write a short story (4-7 sentences). Your story must start with the portion of the sentence that I give you below. You can then take your story in any direction from there. Have fun with it, be creative, and focus on all of those good writing things that we've talked about in our blog: planning/pre-writing/brainstorming, subject-verb agreement, correct capitalization, correct punctuation, and more! (It sounds like a lot, but I know you can handle it!)

Ok, are you ready? Here's how you should start your story.

One hot summer day, a few of the students decided to go to a short vacation. This summer, I had the opportunity to go in Haiti for a brief vacation. I went to the best beach in this area. I admired the crystal of Duquoi, I swam in this cool water for few hours. I could not forget the soft warm sand where I walked bear feet. The shade of the almond tree, and the bunch of fruit like the delicious water melon, and all the good food I fed myself. The time was amusement and relaxing.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to take a road trip. No-one even imagined all the excitement that would be waiting for us during the course of this trip. Our initial plan was to go Atlanta, GA. However, I trip became detoured driving through Florida. We ended up stopping in Daytona Beach, FL; where the "spring bling" was going on. A "spring bling" is a huge party that occurs every year. We ended up partying with some old class mates that we haven't seen in years. The swimming pool was awesome, not to mention, I think I might intern in Daytona Beach next year.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to go to the beach. We collected money and bought snacks and juices. We had two cars and eight people. We arrived at the beach at 2:pm. Everyone was very excited to be there. We didn't hesitate to get into the water. Oh boy, it was a blast. We left after 6:pm. Everyone is waiting to go again. Verna B

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to play a prank on Mr. Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was an old English teacher who the students felt was the reason for there sophomore hump and struggle. In a small town your location is always known and the student knew they had two hour until his usual return from his routine Thursday night of bowling. The plan was to decorate his house with tissue. They arrived at Mr. Kennedy's excited about their task an wasted no to before thrusting tissue rolls all around the country side home. As they giggle and skipped around the house an unusual car crept up the drive way, they paused figuring Mr. Kennedy never breaks his routine. A bright light hits them and two man approached, it turns out Mr. Kennedy left his gas stove on and Sheriff Johnson was nice enough to rush him back to his home. That one hot summer day turned into one long cold summer night.

One hot summer day, a few of the students decided to take a trip to Leeward Islands. There we took boat rides to the near by islands, one of them was St. Maarten. St Maarten is one island, divided in two. France owned one part and Holland owned the other. We decided to go to the beach and swim to cool our body temperature. While there we watched as the cruise ships docked into the island. It were beautiful to see the different ships come in. There we got the idea to plan for a caribbean cruise for the next summer.

One hot summer day, a few students and I decided to take a trip to Puerto Rico. We flew on American Airlines, I fell asleep and awoke in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My ex-boyfriend came to pick us up from the airport. On the way back to his town, we drove through tropical mountains and stopped by on of the many of the islands beaches. In the two weeks we were there, we had an amazing time. We rented a boat and ventured out on the seas. The water was the clearest blue I've ever seen. We swam, we walked through the mangroves, went fishing, and caught starfish. When it was time to go, nobody wanted to leave. What a beautiful place, I can't wait to visit again!

One hot summer day, a few of the students decided to go to the movies after school. It was a Friday so our parents didn't mind. We all wanted to be together but we couldnt decide on a movie. Bob and Mindy wanted to see a scary movie while Sharon, George and I wanted to see an action movie. After an hour long debate, we decided to go to Sharon's house, order a pizza and watch Oceans Eleven.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to make a special lunch for their summer class teacher, Ms. Lee. She is a wonderful and very patient lady. She help them to redo the Fcat test from the last year that they did not pass. The students feel very excited when they prepare the sandwich in the cafeteria. They also mix a jug of lemonade for everyone to share. While they step inside the classroom, they cry with thier highest voice and say, " Ms. Lee, we love you, and thank you very much for this unforgetable summer."

Ms. Gates,
After I reread my posted comment, I found out that the tense should be past tense. I must be very careful on the next writing.

One hot summer day, a few of the students decided to go on a trip to Honduras. We went to Bay Island and Roatan Island. This is such a beautiful place, serene and peaceful, with sandy and blue-water beaches. I found out that Julio Iglesias and Cindy Crawford own houses there (I can imagine why). The food is delicious (mostly seafood. Most of it's citizens speak English and the currency is the American dollar.
My father lives one hour away, so we went together and had a wonderful vacation.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to take a road trip to Disney World. They rented a van and left early one saturday morning. It was three and a half hours drive from FT. Lauderdale. It was so much fun, we stopped a few times and bought snacks. We finally reached there after nine A:M. We went on a lot of rides. One hot summer day, a few of the students decided to go kayaking at a near by state park. There were 8 of us in total so we had 4 kayaks. One of the students brought her small dog along. We thought it would be fun to make it a race and see who could make it to the end and back. On the way back, we were going against the current and it was hard. The student's dog fell in the water and was swimming away, so I jumped in after it. We kept the dog on our kayak and still made it back first! It was a lot of fun, but afterwards all our arms were very sore!

One hot summer day,a few of the students decided to go to the beach. We also decided to have a cook out. We had chicken, bar be que ribs, potatoe salad and bake beans. Some of us wanted to take a swim before we ate. We were having a good time, suddenly one of our friends called to us, that the food was almost done. We were having such a good time we did not acknowledge her call, because of the loud shoutings, and the noise of the crashing of the waves. Finally we decided to come out of the water,to see if the food was done and could we eat.I was very anxious and could not wait. When we prepared our food, and was ready to sit and eat. I decided to get me and the others a cool drink. What a wonderfil day this turned out to be.

On a hot summer day, a few students decided to do something to beat the heat.Since the beach was a few miles away they decided to go on a fieldtrip.
So they stopped by the local food store and grabed a few sandwishes, water, sodas, ice and everything else they might need for the occasion. Though the beach was crowded, they still find a comfortable spot.Soon it was time to hit the waves and start cooling off.Needless to say they had the time of their life and they beat the summer heat.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to put together a picnic. They decided that if everyone both a covered dish there would be plenty of food for every one. To make sure their plans would come together without chaos, Jane told the others to meet in the auditorium so they could all join up and everyone can decide what they would bring to the picnic. They all decided that Saturday would be a perfect day for their picnic and everyone would meet up at the park with their families. Everyone was met up exactly as planned at 11 a.m. with their spouses and children. The food was prepared by each student as planned and everyone left the park excited and amazed at how much fun they had after such a long week at school.

One hot summer day a few of the students at the school planned to do something different. They decided to take a short cruise along the intercoastal water in Fort Lauderdale.

The Jungle Queen river boat was their choice for a cruise. The captain shouted, "all aboard", and they were on their way. They enjoyed sight seeing, a close up view fabulous houses owned by celebrities, and a meal tastee meal of barbecue ribs, chicken and shrimp.

Their short cruise came to an end too soon, and they are back to the reality of sailing with their school books again. This was a cruise the wanted to last all summer.

One hot summer day, a few of the students at the school decided to have a "GO GREEN" party. It was unique and different because it has never been done. Not only was it going to be music, dancing, and food--we also displayed renewable products on display. We provided information how to transition into the a more "GREEN" life style.
