Relationship: Good Writing and Good Reading (Part 3)

Back in July, there were two blog posts (July 8th and July 26th) that focused on the relationship between good writing and good reading. (To read those blogs and the responses, click on the links above.) Everyone can improve their reading skills and should read for at least 30 minutes daily.

So let's use this as an opportunity to read something and then write about it! You can read anything you'd like (a book, magazine, website, etc.). Here are a few suggestions in case you're looking for something different!

Olympic Coverage - http://www.nbcolympics.com/

Florida History - http://www.flheritage.com/facts/history/summary/

Exercise & Fitness - http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1200013

Hurricane Preparation - http://www.redcross.org/services/prepare/0,1082,0_253_,00.html

After you've read something, post your response and tell us what you read! Remember to write those sentences correctly! :-)

Just months after his May 2007 election,French President Nicolas Sarkozy faced growing criticism over his stalled reforms, flashy style, and stormy divorce. The last straw should have been his whirlwind remarriage,to an Italian heiress,ex-model,and singer who had past liasons with Mick Jager and Eric Clapton, among others, and nude photos all over the internet. But the lady in question,Carla Bruni,is proving an unexpected asset.
She is France's First lady,Carla Bruni Sarkozy.

I read about the Jamaican women 100 meter track team, who swept the gold and silver medal,s at the Beijing olympics. The winner was Shelly-Ann Fraser with a time of 10.78 seconds and teammates Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart finishing second in a dead heat for the silver medal.

"No one would figure that an elite sprinter like Lauryn Williams would have a weight problem. But she did, and by improving her eating habits the last three months, she was able to slim down and qualify for Beijing."
I believe that this is very encouraging to anyone because this proves that whenever you want to achieve something you can make it.

I began with the Florida Heritage website because my daughter had asked me how many forts there were in Florida a few days ago. This was a timely topic for me!

I entered "forts" in the subject box and had six results. I could sort by relevance or by date. I learned that Florida has an Office of Cultural and Historical Programs. I learned that the construction of Spanish Forts was tied to Roman Catholic Missions and that the community of Fort Lauderdale began during the Seminole Wars.

Although I didn't find out how many forts there were, I learned that the earliest forts were constructed out of earth and wood.

Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and most Americans are not physically active enough to gain any health benefits. There are many benefits to being active. Being active does not only mean going to the gym. Instead it means walking up that flight of stairs and not taking the elevator. Instead of driving three times around the mall you could park at the furtherest end and walk. These are all great tips found on the excerise and fitness journal. We should try to follow the above guide and see what a difference it makes to our health.
