Writing - Don't Neglect Those Details

We all know how important details are in your writing. Your words will form a picture in the reader's mind and you want that to be as exact as possible.

Imagine that I write about my day at a park. Just from that one sentence alone, you may already have a picture forming, complete with trees, grassy areas, and maybe even a park bench with a water fountain nearby. However, if my day was spent at a skateboard park, you'd probably find a lot less grass and a lot more concrete! I'd need to describe the scene and the layout of items, especially for those readers who may have never been to a skateboard park.

Practice giving me those important details. Pick a place where you go and describe it in a few sentences. This could be your local grocery store, shopping mall, or even where you work. Describe it in a way where any reader can get a good idea of what this place looks like, even though (chances are) we've never been there!

I love my job! I work the night schift at a small 24 hour pizzaria down on South Beach. The smells of the fresh pizza and garlic rolls. The loud crowd leaving the night clubs in a good mood and very hungry. Also every employee running around in chaos taking orders from customers, cooking, and cleaning up.There's never a dull moment at my job.

My favorite place to go is to the park.I have a few parks that I go to,but my favorite one is the dog walking park.It is so quiet and tranquil, there are hardly any people there. It is like a hidden park like noone knows about. There are lots and lots of large oak trees. There are also squirrels in the hundreds. They come right up to you and eat right out of your hand. The best thing is the park is huge and has alot of beautiful plants and trees.

I spend alot of time in my car. Because gas prices are so high, I often have the windows rolled down to save money. It is noisy but I am used to the warmth and rarely need to put the airconditioner on. When I am on the highway though, I keep the windows rolled up. That is usually when the kids say, "Mom, put the airconditioning on!" I always put it on for them. They are not in the car too much anyway. When I park anywhere, I put the sunshade up which helps to keep the car cool.

Wow! Listen to that crowd. The roar of fans, the cheering of cheer leaders one by one posing and sing a loud cheer, and even the the loud hitting of body pads and helmets as they crash into each other. The referee blowing his whistle and using a sign language towards the crowd, to let them know what violation he is about to call. The hot sun beating down on me while I squeeze the sweat from my favoite team shirt. Man, oh man, how I love going to the football games.

The mall would be my favourite place to be, because of all the different things that take place, they are so many people going in many different direction, you have the food court, the different stores, young and old people shopping. But one thing for sure, they are all gathered for one sommon cause.

I like to go to a bead store which is close at my home. There are a lot of different kinds of bead. Some beads make from rock, glass, clay and metal. I like to look and touch them. Some beads are very expensive. The glass beads are more affordable for me, because the price is cheaper.

When I look out the window and see the waves quietly crashing onto the sandy beach I know I am been called down to the big blue wonder. The white caps tell me,"Come swim and surf with me."I race down jumping on the white and golden sand as it burns the soles of my feet.I drop my towel under a palm tree and run into the warm greenish blue water. I love going to the beach at about 7:oo in the afternoon. This is the time of day when the sun is dipping in the sky and their are not many people about. I feel a total sense of being one with nature. Then comes the sunset. I have only one word to describe it phenomenal!

My favorite place is the beach. The sand caresses your feet, the ocean view relaxes your mind, and the sun gives you a welcoming feeling.
